A list of my favourite products

Having a sore vagina has changed the way I live my daily life. The vaginal pain comes and goes in week long intervals, but the back pain is always there. I wanted to make a list of a few items I can honestly now say I can’t live without. Hope this helps all my chronic vagina sisters out there!

Let’s start with my favourite item of clothing.

  • Lulu Lemon ‘Ready to Rulu Jogger’ $118 CAD

I love most things lulu, and have yet to find an active wear brand that fits my body right and provides comfort. It is on the pricier side, but I am all for spending money on quality clothing. These pants are THE dream. They are incredibly breathable, not too tight, and are great for lounging or going out and about. I often wear my pants without underwear, and find the material to be great on my skin! I’d get a size or two up so that you have lots of breathing room. Your vulva doesn’t like tight clothing!

Next, here are a few products I use for my dilation and vaginal muscle release.

  • Berman Intimate Dilator - Vaginismus Therapy $39.96 CAD

    https://www.amazon.ca/California-Exotic-Novelties-SE-9711-14-3/dp/B00121B0H8

I’ve been using this same dilator set since 2018. A dilator is a tube shaped device that is used to release tension in the vaginal muscles and vulva vestibule. I love the Berman dilator because there are three different removable sizes and it comes with a silicone sleeve for extra comfort. Also the vibrator portion (with multiple speeds) is better than the average vibrator products I have owned. The only downside, is it’s battery charged but I personally haven’t found this to be an issue.

  • The Original Crystal Wand - by Nectar Products Inc $39.95 CAD

So I got my wand this past year, it was recommended by my pelvic floor therapist. It may seem a bit scary at first due to the shape, but I actually prefer it to a standard dilator. It’s great for when dilator insertion is already possible, but there are tight areas that need releasing. I would make sure to talk to your gynaecologist or pelvic floor therapist to see what is best for you! Also make sure that you have been provided with breathing techniques to use when doing your own vaginal release. This one that I linked has honey comb shaped tip 😘

Okay, let’s move onto back pain! My back is a huge area of pain for me that I feel all day everyday. So here are two things that I could not live without.

  • Tiger Balm $15 - $25 CAD

I am genuinely surprised at how many people do not know tiger balm exists. It was a staple in my home growing up and I’ve used it religiously for my injuries and chronic back pain. It works kind of like a vapour rub but BETTER. And best of all, it is available at your average drug store. Helps with inflammation and smells amazing. What more could you ask for?

  • Heating Pad $44

I’m sure many of you already use a heating pad regularly for pain management! But I couldn’t make a list of my favourite products without mentioning it! The one I use is the brand ‘Life’ from shoppers drug mart.

Part of my therapy involves meditation, which I find challenging to make time for. For anyone else working on adding more mindfulness into their schedule, here is something that has made all the difference for me!

  • Calm - the app $89.99

Best money I have ever spent. I’m usually not someone to pay for apps. But my pelvic floor therapist urged me to meditate daily and I knew that I needed something to make it easy and accessible. I have found that removing as many steps as possible makes me more likely to actually meditate. The best part of this app are the sleep stories! I love putting them on to help me fall asleep, and find that my sleep is deeper, and more consistent when I use these stories. The app also has meditation segments that are dedicated towards chronic pain. This is LIFE CHANGING.
